Google

What caught our eye…

How do you land a job at Google? The search giant would have us believe that ‘Googliness’ is the secret sauce that set a person aside from the rest of the pack. But what is its inherent quality? How does one attain Googliness? Well, if this week is anything to go by, it’s by searching for things like ‘python lambda function list comprehension’. Get your search right and you could encounter Foo.bar – a recruitment tactic taken straight out of the Matrix which sets would-be candidates a range of coding challenges to determine their suitability. Star Wars

What’s trending…

If you’re responsible for the most viewed film trailer on YouTube over a 24-hour period, where do you go next? That was the challenge facing Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Well, using Instagram’s newest feature: landscape posting, it’s tried to do just that. Taking full advantage of the social network’s cinematic, widescreen option, Disney unveiled a new 15 second teaser for one of 2015’s most anticipated movies. With over 170k likes in less than a day, we’re sure this won’t be the last film to employ Instagram’s new video-friendly feature to tease fans everywhere. There has been an awakening in the Instaverse…

But maybe, just maybe, Facebook as finally cracked it with a tool that will actually convert intent-to-purchase into sales, natively…

Windows

What we’ve been up to…

We’ve been throwing it back to 1995 this week to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Microsoft’s Windows 95 operating system. At NBU, that’s meant a week of media pitches with a hint of Spice Girls, Euro ’96 and Friends wherever possible. Oh, and watching Jennifer Anniston and Matthew Perry’s cyber-sitcom about the operating system, which is pretty much the most 90s thing ever! It even included a segment on how to search for cats, some things never change… 2015’s a big year for 20th birthdays with eBay, PlayStation in Europe, Match.Com, and the Starbucks Frappuccino all blowing out 20 candles at some point. Getting nineties nostalgia? Here’s what they really looked like…
